Intense physical activity, like boxing and martial arts, usually come with fractured nose bones. Although physiotherapy is not a healing resource for such incidents it is important, for those of you who practise such sports (i.e., boxing, Tae kwon do), to be aware of how to deal with such injuries.
Just like in peripheral injuries you must put pressure on the edema for 3 to 5 minutes in order to reduce puffiness and bruising. At the same time the application of a cold pad in combination with the stretching of the head will complete the first-aid steps you may take at that point.
It is worth mentioning that the immediate response on your side will largely shape the nose bone consequences.
This way the patient will be able to contribute to his clinical examination and prepare his therapist for possible affiliated injuries (i.e., nasal septum). The validation of the injury. may occur even without lateral or anterior x-rays (ultraviolet radiation). The absence of puffiness makes the palpation easier and thus, the accuracy of the diagnosis greater.
