Patellofemoral pain syndrome

  • What is it?
  • Where does it stem from?

Bibliography refers to the friction of the knee joint, the dissimilarity of the articular surface, the medical history of a knee injury but also the instability of the patella (kneecap) as the most common clinical findings on an individual suffering from patellofemoral pain syndrome (Giorgios I. Ambatzidis, 1998). Patients must be aware that the syndrome may not be diagnosed by x-rays they possibly hold and that it may only be discovered during a special clinical examination at Physiolysis Centre.

Mechanical agents like high riding patella, the rectus femoris muscle of the quadriceps, increased valgus knee, pronation of the foot and the increased tension of the tensor fascia at a muscle are some of the most important parameters that stimulate the patellofemoral pain syndrome.
