Dimitris Pelekanos

Dimitris Pelekanos is a CGS 1998 Alumnus. On December of the same year, he was admitted to the Physiotherapy Department of the Technological Educational Institute (TEI) of Athens. After the successful completion of his basic training, he continued his studies at KAT General Hospital of Athens (KAT) and at 251 Hellenic Air Force General Hospital (HAFGH) getting his clinical education.

During his training at KAT he took on thoracic surgery and ICU cases where he applied respiratory physiotherapy exercises to individuals with chronic respiratory syndromes. In addition, he applied physiotherapy exercises to trauma and infection cases where immediate improvement of respiratory capability was needed. Furthermore, he continued his clinical training at HAFGH where he treated patients with musculoskeletal conditions. The increased number of daily cases, as well as the wide span of surgical musculoskeletal techniques applied, gave Dimitris a great deal of experience and allowed him to add to his bio the ability to customize and shape different plans for different needs. During his 3rd round of clinical practice, at Asklepieio Voulas General Hospital in Athens,
the main focus of his physiotherapeutic rehabilitation techniques was on neurological incidents, resulting from various accidents or by birth.

During the years 2003-2004 he did his MSc in Sports Injuries (Physiotherapy) in Sheffield Hallam University. Furthermore, he had the unique opportunity to watch Christer G. Rolf, MD, PhD perform orthopedic surgeries due to sport injuries on professional football and rugby players and track and field athletes. Dimitris leveraged on his experience in the UK and upon his arrival back to Greece he worked for the handball team of Ionikos Nea Philadelfeia. Later on, he became
a member of the medical team of Panellinios Professional Basketball Club as a physiotherapist.

Next stop was the Greek national handball team. The Olympic Games of Beijing (2008) and London (2012) were the two most prestigious athletic events where held he was a physiotherapist for the Greek national sailing team.

In November 2008 he participated in the “Practical Podiatric Biomechanics” seminar by Paul Harradine MSc, BSc(Hons), SRCh, CertEd, Podiatrist with whom he then continued his practice at the “Podiatry Centre” of Portsmouth on the application and formulation of podiatric orthotic insoles. Finally, Dimitris, completed acupuncture seminars in October 2018, lead by Christopher M. NorrisPhD, MSc, MCSP, MBAcC.
